dc3 Art Projects is honoured to present The Summoning, a film with accompanying photographs and installation at Montreal’s premiere downtown arts building April 16 – May 3. This work, shown for the first time in it’s entirety, is currently being exhibited as a film and installation at Regina’s Mackenzie Art Gallery as part a solo travelling exhibition of work created since 2008, we live on the edge of disaster and imagine that we are in a musical. The photos are also featured in the touring exhibition They Made a Day be a Day Here, curated by Amy Fung which next travels to The University of Manitoba.

Quirky characters in hand made costumes, dark and mysterious vignettes without a clear beginning or end, quizzical soundtracks, and a fantastic quality to the film sequences. These elements set Atkins’ work apart from traditional short film making and lead the viewer to a place of dreams and half-memories where every frame is a beautifully composed image rendered timeless with anachronistic technology.

Amalie Atkins is a multidisciplinary story teller whose work hopscotches from filmmaking to fabric-based sculpture and photography to performance. Atkins trained at ACAD and lives and works in Saskatoon. She has received the support of numerous grants and awards from Canada Council for the Arts, Saskatchewan Arts Board and Saskatchewan Film Pool. Atkins has been twice Sobey Art Award long listed and her work has been collected by public institutions, corporate collections and by private collectors in Canada, USA and Europe.
