HOMEWARD
A group Exhibition
Adrienne Dagg, Michael Magnussen, Emily Jan, and Kim McCollum
Sept. 9 - 24, 2022
HOMEWARD
In a time of environmental crisis and a worldwide pandemic, the challenges we face are often overwhelmed by their sheer magnitude. “HOMEWARD '' uses art to forefront the domestic, where these same monumental dramas play out on a more intimate stage. How have our understandings of independence vs interdependence shifted through this global crisis? How has the outside world manifested in our immediate surroundings, where we have spent so much time? Trapped within the same four walls for months on end, we try to create environments that offer comfort, or offer escape. We reach into and through the familiar, seeking something otherworldly.
United as a group by our deep interest in materiality, and in challenging conventional ideas of domestic space. Adrienne Dagg is a painter who explores the dynamic relationship between figures and interior spaces. Emily Jan combines the handmade with the found to create sculptures that combine the faraway and the fantastical with the everyday. Michael Magnussen creates sculptural textile objects that explore ideas of safe space and comfort. Kim McCollum is a weaver and painter exploring how knowledge is created and stored and shared through craft practices.
Thank you to the Edmonton Arts Council for their support of the exhibition.
