dc3 Art Projects is excited to present a survey exhibition by Zachari Logan focusing on the use of the body and self-portraiture from 2008-2018. Through drawing, painting, ceramics and installation, Logan explores the intersections between masculinity, identity, memory and place. With works spanning the last decade, Naked Animals: Selected Drawings 2008-2018 will trace the progression of Logan’s interest and engagement with the figure.

Making their debut in this exhibition is a series of drawings, Helping Hands, done during a Paris Residency in 2009. These studies done in the Louvre of neoclassical paintings focus on intimate moments of nude bodies found within larger historical narratives of bravado or war. These drawings led to the massive oil painting Beautiful Losers, which will make it’s Canadian debut, in which Logan’s own body is inserted into a narrative that hovers between the mundane and the absurd.

Alongside these monumental narrative works, a series of smaller drawings will be shown that exemplify Logan’s current exploration of ‘re-wilding’ of the body, merging foliage with the human figure, specifically in the Green Man series.

Zachari Logan (b. 1980, Saskatoon SK, Canada.) is a Canadian artist working mainly in drawing, ceramics and installation practices. Logan received his MFA from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada in 2008, and his work has been exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He has attended numerous residencies, including the International Studio and Curatorial Program in Brooklyn, NY and Wave Hill Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, NY. In 2014 Logan received the Lieutenant Governors Award for Emerging Artist, and in 2015 an Alumni of Influence Award from the University of Saskatchewan. Logan was long-listed for the 2016 Sobey Art Award and currently lives and works in Regina, SK, Canada. Logan’s work was shown in the exhibition 306’ers at dc3 Art Projects in 2014 and in the pop up show Other Spaces in Los Angeles in 2016. This is Logan’s first solo show with dc3 Art Projects.
